  • Reviews Summary

The reviews for the fuel stop, often referred to as a marina, present a mixed bag of experiences.

Positive feedback highlights the friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, and well-stocked store with a variety of boat supplies and food. Many reviewers appreciate the fuel prices, noting that they are among the cheapest on the AICW, and commend the ease of access for fueling. Some guests enjoyed additional services, such as transportation to nearby restaurants.

Conversely, several reviews express dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the misleading designation of the location as a marina. Critics point out the lack of essential amenities like power and clean water, with one reviewer specifically mentioning being given a black hose for water. The pricing at $3.00 per foot is deemed excessive given the limited services provided. Additionally, some guests reported poor customer service and issues with noise from passing boats.

Overall, while the fuel stop is praised for its convenience and pricing, it is not considered a full-service marina, and potential visitors should manage their expectations accordingly.

I"m on my way from Conway, SC to New Bern, NC.
So far this is the best place I have stopped so far.
Remember, it is a fuel stop, not a Marina. Still they did accommodate my sailboat, has clean shower and restroom. The cherry on the cake is when the lady gave me a phone number for a local restaurant, The River View, and mentioned they will pick me up and drop me after dinner. Indeed, the restaurant sent a driver, nice guy, had a great dinner then they did drop me back to my boat. The location is quite, much more than my last stop in Carolina beach. Thumbs up for the staff.

    Business Response:
We appreciate your wonderful review.....Thank you for coming to visit! We are so glad we could accommodate you and are happy you were able to get a good hot meal....we appreciate you and look forward to seeing you again on future adventures!!! Jess

Less than one star as they should not be called a "Marina" . When I called they said - yes to power and yes to water. We pull up. They gave me a BLACK HOSE to fill my water tank. I said no thank-you. They do NOT have power. I went in to pay- $3.00/Ft!!! Are you kidding me? For no power no water hook up. An UNPROTECTED slip on the middle of the ICW! $3.00 per foot is what she made me pay! NEVER going back! Boats went by way to fast and waked us all evening until about 11pm. We used our genie for power when needed for a hot shower and coffee in the AM. I don't like to be lied to either. This marina doesn't have power and a black hose doesn't qualify as "water".
I have paid $3/foot when I have electricity, water, a protected slip, and in a desirable location- in the middle of a town with a restaurant nearby. This had Nothing! Usually a protected slip, electricity, water, near a restaurant is between $1.50-$2.50/ft. For $3.00 I should have, at the very least, Electricity and be protected in a no-wake zone!

We had called ahead, reserved a transient slip and were told we could be tied up at the fuel dock and be pulled forward if need be. One great deck hand and one in dire need of corporate training and manners who told we could not leave the boat until after 5pm. There was no hot water in showers. No amenities which at $2.25/ft is expected. No nearby groceries or restaurants. We now know that this is not a marina. This is a fuel dock with a Navy fueling contract. The new owners have a lot of work to do.

Great place for fuel and a good chandlery. All their tankage and pumping equipment is just a few years old. They pump a lot of fuel so it is always fresh and clean.

Remember, this is not a Marina, it's a fuel stop-usually the cheapest diesel on the AICW. Today $2.50/ gal. & prices updated on Cruisers net etc. Jimmy (legendary for his gruffness) retired last year. Brandon is now holding the fort & is skilled, personable & helpful. Their core business is fuel especially local trucks (they have "on-road" fuel pumps on the other side of the property) so Brandon is busy shuttling between the 2 so they rarely answer VHF but usually as you approach the fuel dock, he will arrive in time to catch lines. Easy bulkhead tie-parallel to & 200' off the AICW. The store has a surprising selection since it also serves the trailer park.

    WG Editor Comment:
The facility does offer limited overnight transient dockage.

Tried to get fuel here. Stopped in line behind a motor yacht as there was a small outboard at the fuel dock. The outboard finished and left, then another came zooming in, cut off the Motor yacht and began to fuel up. When I called to complain they just said "thanks for calling". They clearly do not care about cruising customers and defer to the locals. Do not expect anything like customer service here. Just keep going, I did.

Very helpful, friendly, professional staff. They went out of their way to help get us into and off of the fuel dock safely in a strong wind, and provided information on navigational hazards in the vicinity,

Fabulous small marina. Great ship's store (wide variety of parts/oil, etc), clean bathrooms and showers. The folks are very friendly. Price for overnight is a $1 per foot. Diesel, gas, some food, and 30 amp power. They can only accommodate boats on the bulk head so call. Tides around 2' which is great for NC. Pizza delivery available. Mobile phone reception is there but weak for T-Mobile (but we had no problems). Quite a few land yachts park their so always good folks around. We saw several people just driving to the docks to see the moon and sunrises over the marshes.

    Highly recommended.

New River Marina is a great stop for fuel with the best prices around and friendly service. They have a ships store which contains most anything you would need for repairs or boat supplies with reasonable prices. It's not the Hilton, its a boat yard which provides a great service to cruisers. We'll make it a stop on our trips north and south for sure.
