Marina Review for Safe Harbor Yacht Haven

Our overall experience in Stamford was positive. We had a difficult time getting here with the East wind blowing down the sound creating 6-8ft seas. Our first attempt to cross the sound was abandoned after 40 minutes. All the parameters met our "Go/No-Go" criterion, but we didn't take into account the fetch from the wind. We waited out the wind and succeeded on our second attempt.
The facilities at Safe Harbor Yacht Haven were less than desirable. The showers needed cleaning, and the restrooms/showers were in a small building about as far from the slips as possible. The docks needed repair and cleaning as well, with grease on the surface in places and tipsy piers. There were nicely covered seating areas with grills on the docks that were a pleasant surprise. The marina is located at a corporate area with a small park and several office buildings. Competent dock hands were available to help with docking. It was pet friendly with walking trails throughout the office park. I don't recall any fuel docks or pump-out services. And there was no ship store or restaurant nearby.
We provisioned on our electric bikes. There was really nothing in walking distance. Stamford is largely an industrial city and the roadways are heavily trafficked with cars. That said, we did manage to bike downtown to a fabulous restaurant, Quartier, and to a great grocery store (ShopRite of Shippan Ave) getting everything we needed to move on after 3 days. Ice cream was a treat at Sunny Daes Ice Cream (again, by bike).
Getting to the marina from the jetty was tricky and we had to stick close to the channel or risk hitting large underwater rocks. The markers were correct and helped us avoid any mishap. We took the dinghy out, but there really wasn't anywhere interesting to go other than through the East Gate Navigation Gate and Pumping Station into another boat basin.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Our overall experience at Safe Harbor Capri (East) was positive. We hit the Long Island Sound after transiting the East River and stayed in Port Washington June 11-17.
The bathhouse was clean with the women's restrooms on one side of the on-site restaurant (Butler's Flat Clam Shack,) and the men's toilets and showers on the opposite side of the building. There was a small workout facility, and bikes to borrow. There was an on-site paid laundry. Just off the property a neighborhood for dog walking… just have to go through large asphalt parking lot. The fuel dock has gasoline, diesel and pump-out (with fuel discounts to Safe Harbor Members). The docks were well-maintained with room for small and large vessels. 50amp service and water available at slip. Trash cans were spaced out along the dock within easy access to slips.
While fairly young and disinterested, the dockhands were adequately helpful. They tended to drive around in the golf cart and congregate outside the office on shore. Security is strong with an ever changing passcode for the main gate accessing the docks.
The approach to the marina is shallow at low tide, and the wind and current can be a strong factor in successful docking. There is a mooring field to navigate approaching both the east and west parts of this marina. On the west side is a fabulous restaurant, Nino's Beach, and a bike ride into town will get you to Harbor Deli Too with the most incredible breakfast sandwiches!View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Our overall first time mooring experience at Great Kills Harbor through Richmond County Yacht Club was great. It was a little confusing as to where to go until the boat came out to guide us to our spot. The mooring ball had two lines attached with a loop at the end to go through the cleats on the boat! Easy-peasy!
We did not use the bath house available to us during our 1 night there. There is a boat ramp and park on the north side of the harbor that we were able to dinghy to with our dog to let her do her business.
The mooring field was easy to access and spots were plentiful. We did get gas for the dinghy at Atlantis Marina, one of 4 marinas on the coastline.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Overall Experience was positive.
The bathhouse was a bit of a walk to the side of one of the on-site restaurants. They were clean, but awkward to get to.
Difficult to get our dog on and off the boat with the fixed docks and few places to walk due to condominiums and fenced-off areas.
2 restaurants on site, but we didn't try either.
50amp electric and water.
The docks were well-maintained with well-positioned cleats
Staff was friendly and helpful in docking and there was adequate water depth at dock and approaching marina.
We felt safe at night... adequate lighting.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer

Dave, the dockmaster, was waving to us from the t-head that we would dock at. He was fantastic at helping us with our lines and plugging us into the 50 amp. He immediately let us know what all the codes were to get into the buildings. They've got a great, clean bathroom and shower facility as well as laundry. The captains lounge was very comfortable and the coffee was free. Dave and Jasmine gave us recommendations on places to eat and we took the marina's bikes down to the Lighthouse Restaurant. We will definitely be back as we want to check out AnnMarie Gardens, which is very close by. The marina offers shuttle service to the grocery store and other places you might want to go. Highly recommend staying if you're in the area!
