Colonial Beach, VA
Colonial Beach is a convenient full service stop for boaters on their way to and from D.C. with marina services available all year-round. This town has a lot to offer. In season, from April through August, the area is hopping with the Annual Osprey Festival, Potomac River Festival, vibrant arts events and summer beach fun. September brings the Annual Northern Neck Beach Music Festival, while October is packed with the famous Bike Fest, Restaurant Week, the Fall Festival and Golf Cart Parade. November will light up the colder days with the Lighted Boat Parade and Small Shopping Saturday. Colonial Beach finishes out the year with Santa's Wonderland & Winter Festival and Crab Pot drop on New Year's Eve. The winter weather in the area from January through March is not severe, and the town is open and welcoming to visitors year-round.
Colonial Beach is steeped in history and first emerged as a bathing and fishing resort in the late 19th century when it was known as the "Playground on the Potomac." Prior to automobile travel, most visitors arrived by boat from Washington, D.C. Many travelers continue to arrive this way and find no lack of marine facilities to accommodate them along "Marina Way on Monroe Bay Ave." If you are lucky, you might arrive on a "Sip & Stroll" weekend when you can visit the participating shops in town with libations in hand. Located 35 nm from the Chesapeake Bay, Colonial Beach is a worthy side trip in its own right. See more at www.colonialbeach.org.
