Charlevoix, MI
Charlevoix is one of the must-stop harbors along the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Just inside Pine River Channel, Lake Charlevoix offers an incredible day or two of relaxed cruising, with well-appointed marinas and picturesque anchorages.
In the 19th century, Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Mackinac Island emerged as fashionable summer resorts for affluent families from Chicago and Detroit. That era left a lasting imprint on the character and architecture of all three places. Over the past century, Charlevoix has continued to evolve while retaining its appeal as a popular summer vacation destination.
Today, the town's rich heritage is preserved by the Charlevoix Historical Society and reflected in its many local attractions. A sandy beach stretches for miles along Lake Michigan, just a quarter mile from Charlevoix City Marina. From the famed Castle Farms to the whimsical Mushroom Houses, there is no shortage of sights to explore. If visiting in mid-July, you may luck out and participate in the Charlevoix Venetian Festival, a free multi-day celebration that includes musical acts, carnival rides, block parties, a car show, a street parade and a boat parade.
