Cleveland, OH
In the early 1900s, Cleveland served as an industrial hub for oil refineries, steel mills, and automotive factories. The economic boon that followed was used to build a magnificent downtown and establish many of the cultural and educational institutions within the city. As a large city, Cleveland offers a great deal to see and do, so you'll want to rely on the city's website thisiscleveland.com and the "Destination Cleveland" app (Android/iOS) to make the most of everything it has to offer. The many local museums spanning art, natural history, aviation and even the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame could easily take weeks to explore fully.
During the summer the city holds ten major festivals celebrating food, music, art, cultures and neighborhoods. We stopped counting after discovering 25 noteworthy restaurants within walking distance of the marina and there are reportedly more than 30 breweries to explore as well.
For outdoor activities Cleveland Metro Parks offer over 23,000 acres of walking and biking trails, picnic areas, and wildlife viewing starting with Edgewater Park (closest to the marinas) with its fishing pier and beach. Check their calendar for events and other opportunities. Cleveland also has an excellent transit system that includes the lakeshore B-Line Trolley which is "Free with a smile."
