Lock E12, Tribes Hill

A popular overnight stop. Skippers can tie up to east or west of lock on north lock wall just west of Bridge E-22: Main St. (CR 27). This is a pretty and shady rural setting but there can be considerable train noise. Be aware that the gates of the terminal leading to the street may be locked after business hours, preventing access to town after 3:30 p.m. Check in at the canal office for a key to the pedestrian gate located to the north. Limited electricity is available at a receptacle under the large crane. Approximately a 3/4 mile walk to Schoharie Crossing across the bridge, where there are remnants of the original Erie Canal complete with a visitors center (closed on Tuesday).
