Nice free wall not far from the south end of lock 12. The path from the lock to the wall is narrow. Pay particular attention to the markers as you pass under the bridge. Tie up was easy and there are power pedestals the full length of the wall. The wall is adjacent to a small park and is a short walk to the main street in town. One of the nicer free walls on the Champlain Canal route.

This is our fourth stay at Dowry Creek Marina. It is a great stop just off the ICW slightly north of Belhaven, NC. What is not to like about a dog friendly marina with free laundry, a pool, loaner car, and an on site restaurant. The staff is great, very friendly and accommodating. We will be back on our next trip through.

Another great stay at Albemarle Plantation Marina. Great facility, beautiful surroundings, and a great staff. The dockmaster JE and Wayne went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well secured. We were able to explore the community more this time and met a bunch of really nice people. We will be back for another visit on our way south.

Free Dock Review for Shellmound Park Free Dock

Just a short trip upriver from the lock. Two piers with T heads at the end of each one. Stay in the channel as you leave the lock and make a hard turn towards the docks. There are short dock poles on each T head making for an easy grab but only two cleats to tie to. The park is nice with picnic tables, grills, and a public restroom and since it is after season there is very little activity. This is a good stopping point on the way to and from Chattanooga.
