We usually do not get many wakes here which we like. Interesting this time we were almost rammed by a sculling boat this time. They were doing their thing and heading into the sun when approaching us and one of the other boats had to shout out out to the blinded boat to miss us. That would have been an interesting insurance claim :) 5 14 2022 anchored again good holding and ample swing room. About an hour and forty minutes to travel to the South mills lock from here at 7KTS. 5 1 2021 anchored here in very light winds. Very relaxing place to anchor easy in out. little traffic. Anchor came up muddy with very good holding.

Vessel Type: Power
LOA: 48'
Draft: 5.0'Overall Rating:3Holding:5Wind Protection:4Current Flow:5Wake Protection:5Scenic Beauty:5Ease of Shopping:1Shore Access:1Pet Friendly:1Cell Service:3At mile marker 48.8 there is a bulge on the west side of the channel and there is an anchorage icon titled "Pasquotank River" there with no reviews so we decided to deviate from our course and at least see what it looked like. We did not stop so this is a reconnaissance review.
Leaving the channel and 14 feet of water we proceeded to the anchorage icon where the depth had dependably lessened to 10 feet at the icon. There were no issues leaving the channel and rejoining the channel after the "drive by." As the river is fairly well protected we decided that this would be an acceptable stopping off point between Elizabeth City and South Mills Lock.
Current and wake protections were pretty good. If the winds were from the north or south there would be more fetch but, under normal circumstances, nothing that would be terrible. Cell reception was good at the icon. Shore access was not good. We decided that this was an "anchorage of convenience" and that, if you were traveling, North Goat Island, 2.5 mile further north on the river, would be a better option.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
