Five Fathom Creek–North

Description:
Anchorage in tidal creek. Good for shallow draft vessels. No wind protection but no wakes from the ICW, just small fishing boats. We entered at low tide and saw 4 feet where creek meets ICW. Then 7-10" at anchorage. Traveling north, turn after the shell mound and anchor before the creek merges with another in the marsh. Called ahead and Leland Marina allowed us to leave dinghy at their dock.

We stayed for for 3 nights and we were the only boat anchored. We entered and left at high tide, so the depth was good, but there are some submerged mud flats near the entrance, so be carefull when entering and following the channel markers. We didn't have a problem with depth at the anchorage. While it's mostly a quiet anchorage, there was a lot of recreational boat traffic in the area. We appreciated the wind during our stay in July. The horse flies were terrible. The dinghy ride to McClellanville wasn't bad. We docked at Leland Oil Company and walked into town.

We were pretty excited to try out TW Graham sea food but it was Sunday… we ended up anchoring in the creek here instead of docking in McLellanville. Once the wind died down and the current straightened us out it was great. Big tides here and in between here and Charleston is pretty shallow. We were happy to have a high tide for that part of our voyage.
