The trip in to Prentice Creek showed a minimum depth of 9' MLW. The placement of the anchorage icon was such that we chose not to even try to get to it as the depth shown were not appropriate for our 5' draft. We chose, instead to turn to the south after rounding the boathouse point and move south to the 10' MLW line, anchoring in the middle of the quite large divot off the channel. Winds were from south and forecasted to be in the 20 mph range overnight. Protection from winds from the south was absolute. In fact, the only exposed direction was from the east, making this anchorage an excellent respite from the winds, waves, current, and boat wakes. The anchor set well and held against our back-down test, going through the night with no drag at all. The anchorage was quiet, calm, and lovely. We spent an comfortable night, with no passing boats, wake, waves, or other distractons. Cellular reception was good. We did not attempt shore access, but there did not appear to be any possibilities in the immediate area. This was a good easy off/on stop going up the western shore of the Chesapeake.

WG Editor Comment:
Moved anchorage to reflect deeper water on the south shore.

We anchored south of the marker and south in the cove but in the 10 ft section. Holding was excellent. Great wind protection from southerlies, but there is a definite side roll from the Bay. It's noticeable whether the Bay is calm or whitecapping. But not unpleasant. More like a baby being rocked to sleep. No place to land dinghy in Prentice noted. All private homes. Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve is across Dividing Creek with a beach.

One owner politely questioned our presence. Shallow with 4 ft or less in spots. Go in further than anchorage map shows or you will be blocking access to private docks. No cell service or shore access.
