The marina itself is lovely and clean. The staff is excellent. But, if you need to escape bad weather, beware of high westerly winds. There is no break wall and any west waves make their way right up the river unimpeded. We arrived here to sit out a front and it was a nightmare of waves and current because of west winds and waves. Staff was super helpful, but we were on hour 8 of non stop waves. Our Mainship was "hurricane" tied and was still being rocked like a toy. We were facing another several hours of severe wave action. Don't make this mistake. When high westerly winds are predicted, skip this location- either north or south marinas

We recently stayed at the Southhaven Municipal Marina for 11 days, partly waiting out some bad weather. It's a delightful marina with clean facilities, including restrooms, showers, and a really nice boaters lounge. It is very close to the commercial part of South Haven, restaurants, shopping and the Maritime Museum. Marina stage can be booked through the DNR website. The slips in the South Marina are mostly for accommodating boats under 45 feet. There are also some transient slips available on the other side of the river at the North Municipal Marina, however, accessing town is slightly more difficult. If you call the Marina, it is possible to book room along the south wall, the long pier paralleling the river, which allows a side tie stay for larger craft. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the marina and our time exploring South Haven.. The staff at the Marina was very helpful, particularly the assistant manager, Kelsey, in helping with docking, packages and local arrangements. Strongly recommend.
