Kemp is the only game in town on the US side. Decent marina with pretty good secure bathrooms and showers. Laundry can only be used when the office is open. The marina entrance is right off the shipping channel with tour boats and busy traffic. It is supposed to be a no wake zone but some rocking can occur, so picking a slip further inside can help a bit. For a large town there is inexplicably no Uber, Lyft, or transportation. Even the so-called local taxi guy the marina gave us never responded to requests for a ride. Grocery is far enough that a bike or something is needed. There is some decent stores & restaurants; a good Greek restaurant but make sure what days they're open. The Yooper Pasty company store is about a 20-minute walk and excellent pasties.

Good place to stop to stage before or after using the locks. Stores and eateries, including a grocery store and hardware, are within walking distance of the marina. If time, visit at least the ship museum next door. Rest rooms are clean and other than goose droppings so are the docks and grounds. Fun to watch all of the freighters pass by this location.

Very nice small marina. We chose it over the other two in town because we are new boaters with a 40 foot and this appeared to have the best room to maneuver. Stayed in the most westerly side of slips for that reason. Good room. I would suggest a boat of any size not be in the most southerly edge slips as it sure looks shallow and rocks along the edge. We filled both tanks with diesel here and had plenty of help from their dock hands. After fueling they walked right to our dock and met us without having to ask! We are getting a super TINy amount of rock occasionally from the channel. Super super minor but will mention. Any other side would not have. So far good experience.

We stopped at the George Kemp Marina after exiting Lake Superior. Easy to get into the marina. Dock hands did a good job. Washrooms were clean and well kept. A great place to watch the large ships enter and leave the locks. It was a bit of a walk to get to the Soo locks welcome center and viewing area.

Arrived 5 June for a two-night stay. The marina is adjacent to the USCG Station. On my visit repairs to Pier A dock including Fuel station were ongoing. The harbor master alerted me to the situation in advance of my arrival, so I was able to adjust my fuel plan. Restroom is clean and convenient. Internet (fast) is offered at no additional charge. Eateries and shops are within a half mile of the marina, likewise the United States Sault Locks and Saint Mary's Canal Park to observe locking operations.

We came after hours, but Tyler was there with a helping hand to assist with fuel, etc. And he did so with a smile and good humor. Amazing service from good folks. Everything was perfect. Thanks!

The George Kemp Downtown Marina is an excellent place to stop when entering or leaving Lake Superior.
The marina is well run, very clean, has very nice docks, and is a great place to watch large ships lock through on to or from Lake Superior.
Saulte Ste. Marie has many tourist attractions to enjoy during your stay.
I've stayed here many times over the years and always been very satisfied and have appreciated the friendly staff.View location on the Waterway Guide Explorer
