NJ: New Jersey Intracoastal Waterway, Avalon, NJ, 619 County Route Bridge, Reduced Horizontal Clearance
- Date Reported: Nov 20, 2025
- Reporter: Waterway Guide Staff
- Source: USCG District 5
- Description:
Mariners are advised that an engineering firm will be performing bridge maintenance on the Ocean Drive (County Road No. 619) roadway bridge, at mile 0.3, across Townsend Inlet, at Avalon, NJ. To facilitate bridge work, a 40-foot-wide work barge will be working in and around the navigational channel Monday through Friday, commencing on December 8, 2025, through May 15, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In addition to the daytime work, night work will also occur on December 15, 2025, through February 1, 2026, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. When the work barge is working in the navigation channel it will reduce the horizontal clearance of the bridge from 50 feet to 10 feet.
Vessels that can safely transit through the bridge during periods with a reduced horizontal clearance may do so at any time. Vessels requiring the full horizontal clearance of 50 feet should contact the barge personnel to move the barge from the navigation channel at least 60 minutes prior to arrival. Barge and maintenance personnel may be reached on VHF-FM channel 13 and the project foreman may be reached at (609) 579 - 8147. All mariners should use caution when transiting the area. MSI # 32505.
