VA: James River - Elizabeth River, Campostella Bridge Reduced Horizontal Clearance
- Date Reported: Sep 22, 2025
- Reporter: Waterway Guide Staff
- Source: USCG District 5
- Description:
Campostella Bridge Mariners are advised that fender systems repairs will be conducted on the Campostella Bridge, at mile 1.8, across the Elizabeth River (Eastern Branch), in Norfolk, Virginia. To facilitate fender repairs the bridge will have reduced horizontal clearance from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, October 06, 2025, through January 30, 2026. Work will be completed with a deck barge in the navigable channel reducing the horizontal clearance of the bridge to approximately 75 feet of horizontal clearance.
Vessels that are able to pass through the bridge in the reduced clearance may do so at any time. The barge will require a one-hour and half notification for vessels that require 140 feet of horizontal clearance. The barge will be relocated outside the navigation channel after each workday. The barge will monitor VHF-FM Channel 13/16. All mariners should use extreme caution when transiting the area.
